Abstract

1296311 Load responsive vehicle brakes SVENSKA AB BROMSREGULATOR 7 April 1971 9004/71 Heading F2F [Also in Division G1] The load on a vehicle is sensed by a pneumatic load cell 1, 2 mounted between the spring 28 and vehicle frame 23, and the pneumatic load signal may be applied to a brake regulation device (not described). The load is applied to a piston 7 and transmitted through a plastically deformable solid 8 such as polyethylene to the small diameter part 10 of a piston 11, the force thus applied to part 10 being automatically balanced by pneumatic pressure applied to the large diameter part 9 of the piston and the pneumatic load signal being taken from part 18 in communication with the chamber over piston part 9. In the equilibrium position of the device, the piston is positioned such that valve member 12 seats against both valve seat 16 and the top of piston 11, and the chamber above piston part 9 is thus isolated from pressure source 17 and exit 13. If the load on piston 7 increases, piston 11 is moved upwardly and pushes valve member 12 from valve seat 16 to allow air from source 17 to enter the chamber above piston part 9 until the equilibrium is again established. If the load on piston 7 decreases, piston 11 moves downwardly and allows air to escape from the chamber above part 9 through exit 13 until the equilibrium position is again established.
