Abstract

198,440. Backhouse, J. C., and Mallett, S. G. March 3, 1922. Spring wheels.-A resilient wheel comprises a continuous metal strip A interposed between the hub and the rim and shaped to form a series of arcuate hub engaging portions A' of which the arcs are parts of circles, the extremities of the portions A<1> joining with a series of bowed rim engaging portions A<2> to produce pronounced shoulders A<3>. Fig. 1 shows a wheel for heavy road vehicles in which the strip A is composed of a number of metallic ribbons held together to form a composite spring. In a modification for use with light vehicles a continuous ribbon is formed with the bowed rim portion larger than the arcuate hub portion. In a further modification two resilient strips are arranged side by side in staggered relation.
