Doors; door frames; charging.- To facilitatd the feeding of metal articles to an electrically-heated hardening &c. furnaco a movable floor section is provided, which, when the door is opened, is automatically moved into a position adjacent the floor of the door opening. In t h e furnace shown the door is movable vertically and carries a shelf 13, which bridges the gap between the support 7 and the floor 6 of the door opening when the door ie in its raised position. The door opening is lined with heat-insulating brick 5. The door consists of a fire-brick body portion 10 enclosed in a metal casing 12, and tight contact with the, plate 9 on which it slides is secured by inclined surfaces 16 and independently adjustable stops 15. The coacting surfaces of the door and the plate 9 are machined. Specification 25897/06 is referred to.
