Abstract
196,457. Oddie, W. M. March 23, 1922. Filtering air.-In apparatus in which dust laden air is fed tangentially to a chamber above an arrangement of filter tubes, the air is by-passed through a separate filter unit at one corner of the filter proper while the main filters are being cleaned. The filter nozzles and the hopper securing means are also modified. A set of sleeve filters A, Fig. 1, communicating with a common receiving chamber A<1>. The air may be by-passed at C into a single tube D while the set of tubes is cleaned, thus maintaining the continuity of the filtering operation. The nozzles E, forming the communicating means between the sleeves and the chamber A', project into the sleeves so that the air passes some distance down the sleeves before impinging against the walls, thus losing some of its initial velocity and obviating the tendency to force dust through the walls of the filter. The dust-collecting bag is secured to the hopper by a fitting shown in Fig. 5, comprising a damper F and two connecting rings. The ring F<1> which secures the fitting to the hopper is smaller in diameter than the ring F<2> to which the bag is secured. The damper is closed when the bag is removed.
