Locking nuts.-A lock-nut of the unbalancedweight type for use in rail-joints &c., comprises a screw-nut a and an eccentrically disposed weight b which is preferably heavier than the nut and integral therewith. Washers c of varying thicknesses are employed to ensure that when a righthanded nut is tightened it lies to the left of and below the axis of the bolt, and vice versa. It is claimed that under the influence of a blow &c., the tendency of the nut will be to retain its position, due to its inertia, and a rotary movement in the tightening sense will thereby be imparted to it as indicated by the broken lines in Fig. 1.
