Abstract

195,570. Leaver, H. A. Sept. 11, 1922. Paving slabs.-Relates to roads in which the surface layer of wood blocks, asphalt or the like is placed on a base of precast reinforced concrete slabs secured together by connecting the ends of rods permanently arranged in the slabs, According to the invention, the rods are fitted at one end with movable devices which do not normally project from the sides of the block but which are protruded for engagement with the rod of an adjacent block after the blocks have been placed in position. Fig. 3 shows a part sectional plan of a block having pairs of embedded rods a arranged at right angles to one another with or without a laver of wire mesh d between the rods. Screwed sleeves b mounted in recesses hare protruded into engagement with screws a<1> on the rods of an adjacent block by turning the sleeves with the aid of a tommy-bar inserted in recesses g in the sides of the block. Rings f, Fig. 4, anchored to the junctions of the rods a and mounted in recesses f<1>, are provided for lifting the blocks. The recesses h, g, f<1> are filled in with pitch which may be burnt out when the blocks are to be removed.
