Moulding-machines.-Sand is compressed by a belt acting against the periphery of a drum and is delivered at high speed into the flask to pack the mould. The belt A, Fig. 1, runs over pulleys in a two-part casing, the lower part C' being pivoted at c<1> and adjustable at c<2> to vary the belt tension. The drum B has a groove in which the sand fed by a shoot or conveyer D<1> is compressed. The delivery run of the belt is substantially vertical. In a modification, the sand is compressed between the belt A and a second belt running over the drum and the casing C is mounted in trunnions to enable the angle of delivery to be controlled. The ramming head may be mounted in various ways; as illustrated in the Specification, (1) on a fixed arm over an adjustable table, (2) on a jointed radial arm carried by a fixed standard, and (3) on a carriage travelling on a runway suspended by a swivel from an overhead travelling carriage. In other modifications, the head mav be mounted on a truck or on a radial arm secured to a travelling wall bracket. Elevators may be fitted to supply sand from the floor level.
