Moulding - machines; treating mould materials. - Moulding- machines that pack sand by projecting wads into a flask at a speed of from 4,000 to 8,000 feet per minute are constructed to rotate over a sand pile upon a fixed pivot 12. The standard 13 is carried by an horizontal pivot 15 on the sleeve 11, vertical adjustment being provided at 19. A curved back plate 14 attached to the standard houses a screw conveyer driven by a chain 55 running over a sprocket 66 driven by the motor 29 that drives the projector 21. An eccentric pin on the outer end of the screw rotates a ratchet wheel driving through internal gearing a wheel 72 meshing with a circular rack 71 secured to the floor. A spring scraper secured to the frame clears sand from the rack immediately in advance of the wheel 72. Buckets 56 filled by the screw are rigidly attached to pins projecting from the chain and deliver to an inclined shoot 32 containing a screen through which sand passes to the projector. Coarse material is ejected by a deflector at the foot of the shoot. The chain passes over a pair of sprockets mounted on a pivoted arm 60 controlled by a spring 65 and winch 64 to vary the tension on the chain. The flask is carried at 46 on a double radial arm 44, 39 with vertical pivots 41, 40 and an horizontal adjustment on an arm 22.
