Moulding - machines; treating mould materials. -A machine in which sand is taken from a heap, carried to the moulds, and projected into them comprises an elevator 20, a sand reservoir 18, and a projecting apparatus 15 of the type described in Specification 137,963, mounted together on a carriage 8 movable on rails 12. The elevator is driven from an electric motor 38 through gearing, chain 48, and sprocket 22, the lower end revolving about a sprocket 25, adjustable in position by an arm 28 operated by a worm 32, in conjunction with an idle wheel 35. A spiral conveyer 26, 27 rotates with the sprocket 25 to convey sand to the buckets 21. The sand is delivered to the reservoir 18 through a screen 52 reciprocated by the motor 38 through crank 58, link 57 and lever 54. A second elevator 104 serves to convey regular quantities of sand, delivered by the rotating bottom 98 of the reservoir through an opening 102, to a vibratory shoot and riddle 17, from which the sand is taken by a conveyer belt 74, driven by a separate motor 73, to the projector 60. The latter is carried by a jib 71, pivoted to an arm 72, which is pivoted on a column 16 attached to the carriage. The elevator 104 revolves about a sprocket 105 driven from the motor 38 through gearing and chain 116, and a sprocket 107 carried by a lever 109 held taut by a spring 111. The motor 38 also traverses the carriage through a high and a low speed gearing, clutching arrangements being provided to put the elevator and carriage drives out of operation as desired. A door 76 permits access to the reservoir.
