Reel and non - endless web apparatus. - In apparatus of the kind in which an advertisement band moving across a display opening is wound off one roller on to another, the direction of travel being automatically reversed by means carried on the band, laterally movable channelled guides 27 for the top and bottom edges of the band 4 are engaged by bars &c. 39 adjustable on the band to actuate the reversing mechanism. The band 4 may be reinforced by steel ribs 28 the ends of which also pass through the guides 27. The reversing mechanism comprises a sliding sleeve 20 keyed to a shaft 15 driven by hand or power, e.g. from a moving part of a vehicle. The sleeve 20 has end clutch members 21, 22 which engage one or the other of loose pinions 16, 17 meshing with bevel wheels 9, 10 on the rollers 2, 3. The sleeve 20 is moved by a pin 31 on the lower guide 27 through forked levers 32, 36 and a spring-cushioned bush 25<1> sliding on the sleeve 20. To hold the clutches 21, 22 in position a stop is preferably provided comprising a spring-pressed plunger having a roller end which engages a cam plate on the pivot pin 33 of the lever 32. Brake-bands 13, 14 pass over free-wheel brake drums 11, 12 on the rollers 2, 3.
