Located in approximately horizontal relation to and in a plane intermediate the worms 23 and 27 are ` raide rods 29 and 30 upon which is mounted to slide a table 31 by the provision ot ears 32. Beneath the guide rod 29 is a third guide rod 33 and a belt shifter comprising` downwardly extendinor arms 34 slides upon the rods 29 and 30 and is connected with Vthe table 31. This table 31 extends between the worms 23 and 27, as shown more particularly at Figures 2 and 4, and mounted thereon is a jack 35i Theljacl; arries upon its upper and under side respectively mutilated nuts 36 and 37 adapted, as the jack is raised or lowered, to `en a i,'e` respectively with the worms V23 and 27. Above the table 31 ay guide rod 38 is mounted upon which moves roller 39 which supports a spring 40, the opposite en d of which is connected with the jack 35 teuding to raisesaid jack to hold the mutilated nut 36 in engagement with the worm 23.
At one side a cam 41 is located in such position that as the table V31 and jack 35 move to its position under the action of the worm, the cam forces the jack downwardly first out of engagement with the worm 23 and then into engagement with the worm 27. When the jack has been depressed, as shown at Figure 6, a roller 42 carried by the vlever 43 is forced by the spring 44 to engage upon the top of the jack and hold `it in its depressed position, that is to say in engagement with the worm 27. At the opposite limit of movement` 'a cam 45 is provided which engages the lever 43 and moves it to the position shown at Figure 2, whereupon the spring' 40 again acts to release the nut 37 from the worm 2T and engage the nut 36 with the worm 23.
In operation, assuming that the doors are at one limit ci" their movement as shown at Figure 1, the belt 1() would be in engage ment with the pulley 13 and the lever 43 and roller 42 would be in the position shown at Figure (i with the jack 35 depressed to bringtbe nut 37 into engagement with the worm 27. Powner now applied to the pulley 13 will cause the 1ables 20 and 21 to he wound upon the drum mvinp; the doors to closed position. Siimiltaneously, the belt 10 passing over the roller 22 will `rotate the worms 23 and 2T Fo that the table 31 and its associated parts will move entirely from one end et the worms to the other. The move ment of this table 31 and its associated parts will shi'lft the belt 10 from operative `engagement with the pulley 13 to engagement withthe pulley 11, over run being taken advantage of in the usual well known manner. Upon the movement of the table and its associated parts to the opposite extreme ot movement, the cam 45 will engage the lever 44 and move it to the position shown at Figure 2whereupon the spring 40 will throw the jacl`35 from the position shown at Figure 6 tothe position shown at Figure 2 and theparts are now ready to reverse 'and open the doors at the next operation. From this point the cycles of operation will be fully understood and further description would only add to the record.
lVhat I claim to be new is:
l. The combination with adjacently journaled pulleys and abelt adapted to actuate either of said pulleys eleetively, a roller upon which one section ofthe belt operates, a pair of adjacent worms journaled transversely of the belt and intergeared to rotate in opposite directions and driven from the roller, a ment ber introduced between and mounted'to move longitudinally oi the worms, nut sections carried by said member adapted to separatelyengage with the worms, means atopposite extremes of travel ofthe member to shift the member to release the engaged nut section and engage the free nut seetiomand means carried by the member to shift the belt in its movement.
2. The combination with adjacently journaled pulleys and a belt adapted to actuate either of said pulleys electively, a roller upon which one section of the belt operates, a pair of adjacent worms journaled transversely to the belt and 'intergeared to rotate in opposite ydirections and driven from the roller, a guide mounted in parallelism with the worms, a member introduced between the Worms and mounted to slide longitudinally upon the guidanut sections carried by said member adapted to separately engage with llll the Worms, means at opposite extremes o travel of tlie member to shift the member to release the engaged nut section and engage tlie tree nut section, and means carried by the member to shift the belt in its movement.
In combination with adjaeently journaled pulleys and a belt adapted to aotuate either ot said pulleys electively, a roller upon which one section of the belt operates, a pair ot' adjacent Worms journaled transversely to the belt and intergeared to rotate in opposite directions and driven trom the roller, a pair olf.' guides mounted upon opposite sides oit and in parallelism with the Worms, a member introduced bet-Ween the Worms and mounted to move longitudinally upon tlle guides, nut sections carried by said member adapted to separately engage with the Worms, means at opposite extremes of travel ot the member to sliitt the member to release the engaged nut section and engage the tree nut section, and means carried by tlie member to shift the belt in its movement.
4. The combination with adjaoently journaled pulleys and ak beltadapted t0 actuate either of said pulleys electively, a roller upon which one section of the belt operates, a pair ol Worms journaled transversely ofthe belt and intergeared to rotate in opposite directions and driven from the roller, a member introduced between and mounted to move longitudinally ot tlieivorms, nut sections oarried by said member adapted to separately engage with the Worms, a spring,- tending to hold the member with one nut section in engagement vvitli one ot tbe worms, means at one extreme ot travel ot' the member to move the member against the tension ot the spring, to disengage the engaged nut section and engage the tree nut section, a latoli to hold said member in said last assumed position, means at opposite extreme of travel to release said latch, and means carried `by tlie member to shit't the belt in its movement.
