Abstract

193,730. Seward, E. W. April 4, 1922. Tyres, non-elastic, and rims.-A detachable tvre for the wheels of drags, tractors and the like, which is assembled over the ordinary wheel 3 of the vehicle, comprises a laterally split metal rim 2, preferably formed witlh upturned flanges to grip a split rubber tread 1 secured to the rim. The ends of the detachable tyre are drawn together by bolts 6 passing through small metal angle plates 4 secured to the flanges of the rim 2 at the extremities of the tyre, a dowel on one end face of the tread 1 fitting a corresponding recess in the other end face. Hook bolts 8 secured in apertures 'in the fixed rim of the wheel engage the flanges of the rim 2, which, to prevent creeping of the rubber tread, is bent up at its ends. If the detachable tyre is not of sufficient length to encircle the wheel, an additional portion is inserted, its ends being secured to the ends of the main portion.
