Vices.-The part nut of a rapid adjustment vice is formed in one piece with the carrier holding it in position in the vice body, and quick adjustment is obtained by tilting the ram carrying the vice screw to release the latter. The carrier, as in the vice described in Specification 100,666, is free to move laterally or angularly in the vice body so that the part nut may centre itself with respect to the vice screw, and is detachably held in position in a recess in the vice body by the ram which rests on shoulders on the carrier. The carrier part A has a projecting part D machined to form a half nut, and is provided also with downward projections A', A<2> engaging a suitable recess B in the vice body C so as to be movable laterally, and also angularly to the extent permitted by the clearance between the ends of the projections and the edges of the recess. The ram H carrying the vice screw rests on shoulders A<3> at the sides of the carrier A, which is thereby held normally in position but may be removed when the ram is taken out of the body.
