Vices.-The tiltable actuating-screw of a rapid adjustment vice, which engages with a sectional nut in the base of the fixed jaw member, is provided with a coned part adapted to engage bevelled countersunk edges of the slot in the movable jaw members through which the screw passes to prevent the screw rising from the nut when gripping the work. The screw 4 engaging the sectional nut 3 in the base 1 of the fixed jaw member 2 passes through a closed slot 8 in the front of the movable jaw member 6, the. lower part of the slot 8 having a bevelled countersunk edge 8<a> engaged by a coned part 9 on the screw when the screw is actuated. The rear end of the screw is carried loosely in a detachable cap 7.
