Abstract

247,090. Hacheney, F. C. Aug. 5, 1925. Pivoted and sliding jaw wrenches.-In 8 rapidly adjustable wrench having two relatively movable members, one with a toothed shank and the other with a locking device connected to it, the locking device comprises a member with a number of slots and a toothed member with teeth extending through the slots and adapted to engage the toothed shank for holding the latter in adjusted position. The shank 10 is toothed at 16 and terminates in a head 11 comprising the fixed jaw 13 and a yoke 12 through which slides the shank 14 of the movable jaw 15 pivoted at 20 to a slide member 18 on the shank 10. The member 18, as shown in Fig. 4, is formed of side walls 21, 22 and upper and lower ledges 23, 24, the latter having a number of slots 25 through which extend locking teeth 27 on a member 19, Fig. 5. A spring 30 acting between the ledge 23 and an overhanging part 28 of the member 19 forces the teeth 27 normally into engagement with the shank teeth 16. Separation of the parts 18, 19 is prevented by the engagement of a pin 31 in an opening 32. By thumb pressure on the locking member 19 the teeth 27 are disengaged from the shank teeth 16, permitting adjustment of the movable jaw.
