Density separators.-An apparatus for separating solids, more particularly ores and coal, has a central spindle l and one or more sheaths each having a helico-truncated part ab, which merges into a truncated part cd. Internal partitions or ribs e, f, g, are arranged between the inner and outer walls of the part ab, thus forming narrow channels for the stream of liquid carrying the solids. The part cd also has partitions e<1>, f<1>, g<1> which are continuations of the partitions e, f, g. Either they do not extend completely across the sheath, or they have a number of apertures for the passage of the solids. The discharge end of the part cd is closed by a plate h with nozzle i which may be provided with valves to vary the rate of flow. While the apparatus is rotated, the materials to be separated are introduced through the tube k to the part ab and they remain shielded by the rib g from the diluting water fed through the tube j until they enter the part cd. Here the materials are separated by means of the communication existing between the channels bounded by the ribs e<1>, f<1>, g<1>. The graded materials issue from the nozzles i, and are collected in channels m in a circular casing n.
