Pneumatic separating. - In apparatus for separating and classifying fine granular material, as in connection with grinding operations, of the type in which the material carried in an air stream passes up the annular space between two cones A, B, and through a series of adjustable tangential ports at a, in the inner cone to an outlet D, the direct passage to the outlet is obstructed by the provision of a conical baffle F which is adjustable in height. The inner surface of the baffle may be provided with one or more rings f. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the dust laden air enters the apparatus by the passage C, and meets the deflector H which causes a deposition of the heavier grades into the discharge outlet E. The material deposited in the inner cone A is released by flap valves a<1> and to prevent direct passage from the inlet to the outlet during the time that these are open, a deflecting member J may be provided. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which a second discharge tube E' is provided for deposited material.
