Abstract

715,601. Pneumatic separating. FILTERWERK MANN & HUMMEL GES. Dec. 24, 1952 [Dec. 29, 1951], No 32733/52. Class 117 In a pneumatic sorter for grain &c. the material is introduced through an annular upper opening in the innermost of a plurality of annular chambers and then directed outwardly by an inclined shoulder into a second annular shaft up which air is passed to carry off the lighter components. the latter being deflected outwardly by an annular shoulder and carried downwards to a collecting chamber while the air is again directed upwardly and discharges through an outer annular chamber. The installation described comprises a granule separator A feeding grain to the pneumatic sorter C and dust-laden air to a separator B which provides clean air for the sorter, the granule separator being connected to the pneumatic conveyer pipe line 1 carrying grains and dust. In the lower part 2 of the separator A a horizontal channel 53, connected to the inlet pipe 1. is of U-shaped crosssection and is bent upwards so that the grains are thrown upwards against a conical baffle surface 54 of a body 51 which forrns an annular gap 3 with the outer casing The cross-section of the gap IS equal to that of the lower casing 2. The grains after rebounding from the surface 54 drop into the sorter through a cone 5 and dust-laden air is passed over pipe 43 to the dust separator B which feeds clean air to the sorter C through Pipe 24 and dust to the container F. The grain entering the sorter standpipe 6, which has a glass inspection wall 7 falls into a bowl 27 having a central opening 64 and carried by a rod 26 from a spring-loaded cone 25 which closes the cutlet cone 8. Pressure of the grain on cone 25 depresses it to allow an annular stream of grains to drop on to the frusto-conical shoulder 56 which deflects it outwardly into the annular shaft 9 in which an upward flowing air current is encountered. Whole grains drop through a connecting member 11 to container D, while crushed and half grains are carried through an upper annular space 12 into a pressure-drop space 13, from which they are deflected downwards by cone 8 into a further annular shaft 59 and drop through a connecting member 15 to container E. The air passes the cyindrical screen 16 into an outer annular chamber 60 and thence to the outlet pipe 17. To regulate the air velocity in the sorting chamber 9, 12, a by-pass duct 18 is provided and throttle valves 19, 20 in this duct and the main air duct 24 respectively are arrranged to 'be operated together to open one duct when the other is closing and vice versa.
