Abstract

192,201. Salz, J. Nov. 8, 1921. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Pencil-holders; erasers.- A pencil-holder comprises a barrel formed of moulded rubber and a metal propelling-device held in the barrel by friction. The barrel 11 is longitudinally bored to accommodate the propelling-mechanism and to form a series of receptacles 19, Fig. 4, for spare leads. A nozzle member 12, Fig. 2, screws into the forward end of the barrel and serves as the connection between the barrel and the frusto-conical point-section 14, into the forward end of which is forced a tip 15 provided with a neck 16 knurled at 17, Fig. 11. The forward end of the tip is slit to provide a grip for the lead. The follower rod is formed from a pin 30 having a laterally-extending head 31 entering a slot 33, Fig. 4, in the barrel to prevent rotation, and formed witli a number of holes for engagement with a corresponding number of convolutions of spiral 24 enclosed in the barrel. The spiral is secured to the reduced end of a head-piece 20 rotatably held in the end of the barrel by means of a.split ring 26 which engages grooves in the head-piece and barrel. For further security, a band 29 attached to a pocketclip 28 is arranged over the joint between the two parts which are cut away to ensure the band lying flush with the surface of the barrel. An eraser 35, Fig. 10, is secured in the end of the headpiece by a split ring engaging grooves in the two parts, and a covering-cap 38 for the eraser, held in position by a groove 39 and indentation 40, is provided.
