Abstract

192,192. Short, R. I. Nov. 4, 1921. Look-out reflectors and like observation devices. -A universal mounting for a vehicle mirror, spotlight. &c. comprises a socket member 16 provided with a clip 14 to grip the windscreen &c. and having a hemispherical recess 17 in which is seated a ball-like projection 18 from which extend a plurality of arms 19 having end lugs 20, one or more of which may be adjustable to grip the mirror. A bolt 26 passing radially through the joint members 17, 18 carries a spring 29 which frictionally holds the ball projection 18 between the recess 17 and a cupped washer 31. In a modification, shown in Fig. 7, the friction holding means comprises a spring-pressed socket member 35 slidable on the central bolt 40 and located in a recess in the clip 32, the hemispherical washer 38 being formed with a series of circumferential corrugations engaging in similar corrugations in the cavity of the ball 18. In a further modification. shown in Fig. 8, the ball member 45 is formed on the mirror back 42 which is provided with a circumferential flange 43 and bezel 44 to secure the mirror, the ball being seated in the socket 46 and held therein bv a screw 48 passing through a nut 49 and friction member 50, the socket 46 being provided with an attaching clip 48.
