Abstract

503,192. Look - out reflectors for vehicles; brackets; ball joints. NEALE & SONS, Ltd., J., and NEALE, R. W. Sept. 29, 1937, No. 26312. [Class 103 (ii)] [Also in Groups XIV and XXV] In a support for a road-vehicle observationmirror in which the mirror is adjustably secured to one end of a supporting arm comprising a rod 14 slidable in a tube 15 against frictional resistance, the other end of which is connected to a bracket positioned in the vehicle interior above or below the windscreen, the frictional resistance is supplied by a contracting band clip or clips applied externally to the tube to grip the rod. As shown, a double-sided mirror 1 having bright and dull reflecting surfaces 2, 3, is secured in a clip 4 carried by the ball element 7 of a universal joint 8 carried by the rod 14. The tube 15 is pivoted to a bracket 17 and is provided with slots 18, 19 and with tongues 26, 27 forming keys engaging a keyway 28 in the rod. Spring band clips 22, 23 are provided on the tube which have segments 20, 21 and 24, 25 which project through the slots and engage the rod. One clip only may be used and there may be several opposed and longitudinally or transversely spaced gripping segments. The socket for the ball comprises a seating 10 on an annular housing 9, and a disc 12 slidable in the housing and maintained in position by a screw 11 and spring 13. During adjustment of the mirror the screw is 'slackened so that the disc is maintained in engagement with the ball by the spring pressure only, but after adjustment is screwed up to engage positively the disc with the ball.
