Abstract

233,149. Heath &, Sons, Ltd., S., Tongue, A., and Mason, A. E. May 19, 1924. Look-out reflectors.- In a ball-and-socket joint, particularly adapted for adjustably securing a combined lamp and lookout mirror to a support on a motor vehicle, the ball member is formed in two or more parts adapted to be separated by screw operated means to cause them to bind in the socket, a spring being also provided to retain the parts in adjusted position in the absence of vibration when the screw pressure is slackened. The ball members 7, 8 are mounted in a socket 5, 6 provided on the combined lamp and mirror 1. One ball part 8 is provided with a hollow shank or sleeve 12 having a tapered fit 13 and adapted to be clamped in a bracket part 18 by the usual winged nut. The ball parts are pressed apart by a winged screw 16, threaded into or on to the end of the tubular shank 12 and acting through a loose pin 9 bearing against the ball member 7. The pin 9 is guided by a retaining flange 14 and provided with an enlargement 10 against which abuts a spring 11 which becomes operative when the screw 16 is retracted.
