To all whom t may concern.' Be it known that I, FREDERIK G. WHIT- TINGToN,.a citizen of the United States, re-
siding in the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Supporting Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
his application is a division of my pending application, No. 342,586, filed December 5, 1919. The invention of this present divisional application is an improvement in lamp supporting devices. It consists in the elements and features of construction shown and described, as indicated in the claims.

. The usual support upon a vehicle for a lamp of this character, is a verticular member, such as a frame of a windshieldwof an enough to maintain any given adjust while permitting readjustment of the clamp ment aXiall of said stem. The detailed convadjacent to the lug,

13, of the triangplar outline mentioned, forming aboX-like structure, so that similar ears, 16, formed as hereinafter described, may be clamped against the" ears, 15, by a clamping bolt and pivot member, 17, which is provided with a spring washer, 18, and a friction washer, 19, permitting the parts to be clamped with considerable firmness so as to be frictionally held quite firmly in place while yet allowing of adjustmentabout the pivot, 17, without releasmg the nut of the clamping bolt.
The ears, 16, are formed as integral eXtensions of a cylindrical clamping member, 20, lembracing the tubular stem, 8, above mentioned, and provided with perforated lugs, 21, through which the ,stem of the clamp screw, 22, extends for securing the stem, 8, frictionally against rotation in t epart, 20. And at this point also, it may be understood, that the clamping is designed to be only firm adjustment,
about the axis of the stem 8, without f requiring release of the clamping screw, 22.
To permit such rotation of the stem, 8, within the member,l20, and at the same time pre- I vent itffrom being withdrawn longitudinally therefrom, a groove, 23, is formed in the stem, 8, and locking member, 24, is clamped in position on the screw, 22, said locking member having a projecting nose,25, engaing the groove, 23.

The'slot, 20a, is of such length as to limit the-rotation of the member, 24, about the clamping screw, 22,
in one direction, but to. permit it to rotate out of engagement with the. groove, 23,
when the clamp screw, 22, is released, and the tubular stem, 8, is withdrawn from the clamp, 20, as indicated in Fig. 3.
When the lamp is thus disengaged from its support, it may be employed for various purposes, as in removing an injured tire orm'aking other repairs about the vehicle, sufiicient extra length of lead wires, 29 and y 30, being provided for this purpose.
