This invention relates to trouble lamps for automobiles and the object thereof is to provide a lamp of this character.constructed so that it may be readily clamped on any suitable supporting object to adapt it for convenient use for changing a tire or other trouble where it is desired. to use a light of this character.

Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a lamp constructed in accordance with this invention with with which it is used shown in section; and

In the embodiment illustrated the lamp constituting this invention comprises the usual reflector 1 having an electric bulb 2 mounted therein. Extending rearwardly trom the lamp isa bifurcated shank 3, the

furcations 4 and 5 of which are designed to receive between them the clamp 6 to be usedin connecting the lampto asupport. A. pintle 7 extends through the outer ends ofthe furcations 4 and 5 and through overlapping lugs 8 carriedby the jaws 9 and 10 of the clamp and by means of which the lamp and clamp are pivotally connected.

In the use of this device the wires 16 being connected with an electric source, the clamp 6 is engaged with any suitable part of the vehicle in the desired position to direct the rays thereof on the part to be illuminated. Obviously the la'mpmay be swung laterally on the clamp to any desired point and will be held as above set forth in i such position by the springs 11.

From the above description it will be seen that this lamp may be quickly mounted or removed from a suitable support and can" ried in a small space when not in use.

Various changes in the form, shape, proportion and other minor details of construction may be made without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the claimed invention.

I claim The combination with a tubular shank having one end portion bifurcated and a lamp fixedly connected to the other end portion, of a pivot device connecting the free ends of the bifurcated portion and extending diametrically-across the shank, opposed jaws having lapping sides through which the pivot device extends, a spring interposed between the jaws at one end for holding them normally pressed together at their other end, and springs interposed between the jaws and the bifurcated portion of the shank, said last named springs being mounted on the pivot device and being maintained under constant compression, thereby to hold the jaws and the shank against free swinging movement relative to each other,

said jaws being extended through the bifurcated portion of the shank.
