Abstract
455,381. Hinges. GRIFFITHS, T. L., Beacon Works, Bradford Street, Birmingham. Dec. 18, 1935, No. 9522. [Class 65 (ii)] [See also Group XXXII] A support for a motor-vehicle driving- mirror is rotatably and slidably mounted on a shank or the like adjustably connected to a fixed supporting bracket, the mirror being positively located in a predetermined position by means of co-operating stops associated with the shank and with the support. As shown in rear elevation on Fig. 3 the mirror 5 is backed by a metal plate 6 secured to an open-ended tubular member 7 which is mounted on a spindle 10, the mirror being located in its normal position by means of a pin 20 on the spindle engaging a notch 21 in the tube 7 under the pressure of a spring 19 separating the end of the tube 7 from a cap 18 secured to the spindle. The spindle has a ball-end 13 clamped between fixed concavely-recessed portions 16 of supporting brackets 14. In a modification, Fig. 4, the mirror is carried between flanged clips 24, 25 pressed towards each other by a spring 33 which in the normal position of the mirror also maintains engagement of a pin 30 on the spindle 10 with a recess 31 on the flange 27 of the clip 24. The ball-end 13 is grooved circumferentially and engages apertures 29 in the supporting clamping brackets 28.
