Abstract

15,107. Crossley, Sir K. I., Huskisson, W. M., and Barley, L. F. Oct. 26. Starting.-In a compressed-air starter, a lever N is-mounted with its fulcrum eccentric to the axis of the lever F. The device is shown in the inoperative position. Depression of the lever F causes one end of the lever N to engage the valve spindle D,. and the other end to engage the engine-operated cam M. When the cock E has been opened, the valve B becomes self-actuating, and the piston R is set in motion. When the handle of the lever F is raised for charging the air reservoir C, the valve B is held open by the depressed end of the lever F, and the'valve D becomes selfactuating. During this operation, the cam S moves the valve stem Q so as to by-pass the fuel back to its reservoir, or the cam S may bring about the shutting of a cock in the fuelpipe.
