Subaqueous sound signals.-In a subaqueous signalling - device in which a tunable structure, such as a tuning- fork E, is excited at a point at which the amplitude of oscillation is large, and oommunicates vibrations to a diaphragm or ship skin A at a point at which the oscillations are small, the excitation is aperiodic. The exciting-device may be a hammer or the like controlled mechanically or electrically, or, as shown, may comprise a wheel having projections H which strike a projection J on the fork.
