8875. Harvey, H. S. June 16. Frame-construction; springs, arrangement of.-The underframe of a side-car or the like is constructed of wooden members reinforced by flitch plates, and is provided with detachable brackets for supporting the road wheel and the ooupling-stays, the front coupling-stay being adjustable in accordance with the length of the cycle. As shown, the frame a is made in sections or from a single member bent to shape, and is provided with a cross-bar c, the frame and the cross-bar being reinforced by flitch plates b, b<1>. The front coupling-stay l is clipped to bars or brackets k, k<1>, which are adjustably secured to the frame by stirrup bolts n<1>, o, o<1>. The road wheel and a rear coupling- stay are mounted in sockets f, f<1> on brackets d, d<1>, which are channelled to receive the frame and the cross-bar, and are secured by stirrup bolts e<1>, e<2>, e, e<3>. The side-car body is supported at the rear by springs g, g<1> secured by the bolts e, e', and is supported at the front by a spring i carried by brackets j, j<1>, which are secured by stirrup bolts or by bolts passing through the frame. Additional coupling-stays may be secured to a lug j<2> on the bracket j and to a bracket h on the cross-bar.
