Abstract

909. Baldwin, W. F. Jan. 20. Sweeping - machines; taking up mud and refuse for removal. - Relates to machines for sweeping roads and at the same time collecting the sweepings, and consists mainly in the combination with a brush 1 of a paddle-wheel 18 situated in front of the brush and adapted to convey the sweepings over the brush into a receptacle 22 at the rear. The brush 1 sweeps the refuse up an inclined plate 12 into the paddle-wheel casing 14. The plate 12 may be extended close to the ground by a rubber plate 15 adjustable so as to compensate for wear. The paddles 19 may also be rubber plates adjustable to compensate for wear. The refuse receptacle may contain a removable box 26 having hinged sides so that it can be collapsed.
