Scraping - machines; sweeping - machines; taking up refuse for removal. - Relates to apparatus for collecting mud and refuse from roads, of the type comprising a portable bin 1 mounted on wheels and provided with a pivoted handle 5 connected with downwardly extending bars 7 carrying a refuse-collecting pan 8, a rotary brush 14 being mounted in front of the pan, and the pan being arranged so as to empty its contents into the bin when the handle is raised. According to the invention, (1) a scraper 13 is provided on the front of the machine, (2) the handle 5 is hinged at 17 for couvenience of transport, and (3) a cover 18, raised and lowered automatically by arms 19, is provided on the bin 1.
