Abstract

434,964. Rail-cleaners. LEWIN, W. J., Sunnydale, Barwick Road, Scholes, near Leeds. March 28, 1934, No. 9691. [Class 103 (iii)] [See also Group X] A machine for removing debris from channels and grooves in roads comprises a pair of scrapers 1 and a rotary brushing device 39 for transferring the loosened debris to a receptacle, the scrapers being rigidly interconnected, supported by wheels 11, and so mounted on the machine as to be free to move both laterally and vertically. In the construction shown, the scrapers are interconnected by a tubular member 24 connected by a telescopic joint 26 to a tubular member 25 which is slidably and rotatably mounted in brackets 27 secured to the vehicle. The sliding movement is controlled by springs 29. Each scraper is mounted in a carrier 2 adjustably mounted in a bracket 3 secured to the member 24. The screwed end 32 of the carrier extends upwardly through the member 25 and carries adjustable lock nuts 35, and a compression spring 33 is fitted between the member 25 and the lower end of the carrier to depress the scraper. The downward movement of the scraper is limited by the wheel 11 which is journalled in the bracket 3. The bracket also carries an eye-bolt 20 which slidably receives the upper screw-threaded end of a spring-controlled deflecting plate 17 having diverging wings 18. The circular brush 39 has a circumferential rib adapted to engage in the channel and is adapted to deliver the loosened debris to a receptacle 41 whence it is conveyed by a conveyer 43 and suction apparatus, of the kind described in Specification 380,596, [Group X], to a receptacle 42. The scrapers are lowered by a lever 36 connected to the rotatable member 25 and the rearward movement is limited by a rod 37.
