Abstract

700,415. Road-sweeping machine; spraying roads. LEWIN ROAD SWEEPERS, Ltd. Feb. 13, 1952 [Feb. 15, 1951], No. 3650/51. Class 107] A road-sweeping machine of the type having a transverse brush mounted on a horizontal axis for rotation such that the underside of the brush moves forwardly with respect to the road, has water discharge nozzles 21, 22 spaced apart at a greater distance than the length of the brush, the nozzles being arranged to direct the water both forwardly and inwardly as shown so that any trails of refuse left as the brush bristles are displaced laterally under the sweeping pressure are washed into the track of the brush. As shown the gutter brush 16 contacts the main brush.13 and rotates on a horizontal axis. In a modification (not shown) a vertical gutter brush is shown and the space between the main and gutter brushes is provided with an extra nozzle to prevent a trail being left between them. The invention is applied particularly to the machine disclosed in Specification 685,545 using laminar sprays as disclosed in Specifications 685,550 and 685,551. Specifications 589,948, 685,546, 685,547, 685,548 and 685,549 also are referred to.
