Abstract

23,335. Krichbaum, W. F. Dec. 1. Valves closing with rush of fluid.-A valve of the type closing automatically in the event of a breakage in the supply pipes or of excess of flow comprises a hollow sliding plunger 5 having flow ports 9 adapted to be closed by the dividing - partition 4 when the valve is closed down upon a stop 12. By-pass ports 13 in the plunger, which are normally out of radial alinement with pressure ports 14 when the valve is closed, can be turned by the handle 33 against the torsion of the spring 15 so as to register with the pressure ports 14, whereby pressure fluid enters the interior of the valve and balances the downward pressure of the fluid on the top of the valve and permits it to open by the action of the spring 15. The compression and torsion of the spring are adjusted by a plate 18 and screw 21. The correct radial positions of the valve are determined by a radial wing 25 coacting with spaced stops 26, and a connecting-web 35 prevents the incorrect assembling of the valve in its casing.
