Abstract
16,979. Siemens Bros. Dynamo Works, and Kieffer, E. O. July 17. Armatures and field magnets, cooling.-Liquid is passed through one or more spiral ducts d, Fig. 1, in the rotor a by a suction or other pump h, the vanes i of which are mounted on an extension of the rotor shaft b. The ducts d may be cut like a screw-thread either in the shrunk-on rotor ring a, or in the body of the shaft b, or partly in both. The liquid enters and leaves through concentric passages f, g connected to the duct d by crosspassages e and communicating with one another through tanks j, j<1>. Other longitudinal ducts d<2>, extending through the rotor teeth or at the bottom of the slots, may be provided. Two or more spiral ducts d may traverse the rotor and be connected at the ends by annular chambers formed in the rotor ; or cooling-liquid may enter one duct, and, passing through this, may enter the second duct at the opposite end, then passing back through the shaft to the pump. These arrangements may be used in conjunction with air-cooling arrangements.
