Abstract

The machine has a superconducting winding to which current supply conductors are connected. It is mounted in a hollow rotor whose shaft has an axial channel for the coolant supply. The coolant cryogen is introduced via the axial channel which extends along half of the length of the rotor shaft. Radial holes allow the cryogen to pass out into the superconducting winding. The shaft has two coaxial tube sections (15, 16) connected together by a thread. The coolant cryogen is drained through the clearance between the threads, cooling the rotor shaft ends as it is discharged.
