Abstract
1456116 Superconducting dynamoelectric machines; electric couplings KRAFTWERK UNION AG 27 June 1974 [27 June 1973] 28654/74 Headings H2A and H2E In a dynamoelectric machine arrangement wherein the hollow shaft 5 of a superconducting generator rotor 1 and the hollow shaft 7 of an exciter are coupled by a coupling 6 comprising a gas-tight cavity 23 in the shaft 7, there are disposed in the cavity 23 releasable plug connections 45, Fig. 2, for electrical conductors 26 supplying current to a superconducting field winding 3 of the rotor 1, and also releasable plug connections 35, 36 for coolant supply and return ducts 12, 15, 16 in the shafts 5, 7, and a duct 24 is provided in the shaft 7 and extending from the cavity 23 whereby to allow coolant which leaks from the connections to be extracted, e.g. at a chamber 25. In the arrangement shown, the ends of tubes 40, 41 defining the duct 12 for supply of liquid helium to the winding 3 are received in one another at 35 and are releasably sealed by 0-rings 44, as are the ends of further tubes defining the return ducts 15, 16 and also auxiliary ducts 31, 32 (shown in Fig. 2 but not in Fig. 1) for supplying and returning coolant to/from a low temperature shield, e.g. at 50- 70 K., surrounding winding 3. The conductors 26 are cooled by helium which is passed through central bores 29. The couplings 45 are sealed by 0-rings 46, 47. An expansion compensator 18 comprising an end plate 19 allows axial movability of the coolant tubes and conductors. The cavity 23 is sealed from the outside by 0-rings 48 between two parts 21, 22 of the coupling 6.
