Abstract

6838. Johnson, W. A. March 21. Armatures; field magnets.-An inductor alternator, which is particularly applicable for use with vacuum lamps, consists of a shell comprsed of four rings having inwardly projecting pole-pieces staggered in relation to each other and energized by coils located between the outer and inner rings, the generating-coil being located between the two inner rings, and a rotor D having polar projections d, which cover the total width of the shell. The four rings A', A<2>, A<3>, A<4>, Figs. 1 and 3, composing the cylinder are formed with radial polar projections 1, 2, 3, 4 separated by spaces equal in circumferential length to that of the projections, the projections 1, 3 being arranged in line with the spaces 2<1>, 4<1>. The lines of force produced by the energizing-coils B, B<1> are completed through the longitudinal radial projections d, Fig. 2, on the rotor D, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. The coils B, B' are so wound and energized as to make the end projections 1, 4 north poles and the internal projections south poles or vice versa, the flux through the generating-coil C thus passing alternately in opposite directions as the rotor revolves. The generating-coil C may be connected to an external circuit containing vacuum lamps, and a commutator which transforms the alternating current into direct current for an auxiliary circuit.
