Abstract

12,571. Baynes, C. May 21. Spray carburettors.-The fuel is withdrawn from the nozzle by a blast obtained from the cylinder during the compression stroke, the amount of fuel varying with the compression pressure. The carburettor body A, water - jacketed at F, is thickened at A<2> to carry the fuel nozzle B. This nozzle is surrounded by an adjustable sleeve C so as to leave a narrow passage which communicates with the engine cylinder through conduits C<2>, c<3>. The sleeve C extends beyond the nozzle at c and is locked by a nut C'. The fuel-nozzle outlet is controlled by a valve D<1>. actuated by a Bowdenwire, the spiudle of the valve carrying a baffle D<4>. Air enters at E, and mixture leaves at E'. Baffles G, G<1> may also be provided, and the mixing- chamber c<1> is corrugated. In a modification, the valve D<1> is replaced by a spring-loaded valve sliding in a perforated casing. The Provisional Specification states also that a floating piston in the annular space around the fuel nozzle may control the fuel valve, a float chamber being then unnecessary.
