9123. Simplex Conduits, Ltd., and Waterhouse, L. M. April 11. Butt joints.-In joints for conduits and conduit fittings, of the type in which a bellmouthed conduit is drawn on to the end face of the article to be connected thereto by a union nut, the construction of this nut is effected by threading a plain tubular length of cast or wrought metal for part of its length as shown at a<1> in Fig. 1, and then turning over the plain part a<2> to form the nut as shown at a<4> in Fig. 3. The turning-over process may be effected in an hydraulic or like press, and the end of the tubular length which is to be left unthreaded may be enlarged as shown at a<2> so as to provide clearance for the tap and give ample room for the belled end of the conduit.
