Abstract
7628. Cowley, H. W., and Cowley, C. H. March 26. Unwinding-machines.-The bobbins &c. are caused to rest, without the use of bearings, upon a pair of long rollers, by the rotation of which the yarn is unwound therefrom. More than one pair of rollers may be used, in which case, succeeding pairs rotate at a quicker speed than the others, whereby the yarn is stretched and broken and the twist therein has a tendency to escape. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, two pairs of rollers a, a<1>, b, b<1> are used, of which the rollers a, bare mounted in fixed bearings, while the rollers a<1>, b<1> are mounted on levers d, d'. The top rollers a, a<1> on which the bobbins &c. rest are geared together, and the roller a is driven by the cord g<2>, while both of the rollers b, b<1> are driven by the cord k' passing over an inclined guide-pulley k<4>. The rollers are provided with clearing-pads o, o<1>, and the lower part of the frame is strengthened by boards s forming a receptacle for the reception of the stripped yarn.
