Chimney and ventilating- shaft tops.-A cylindrical or rectangular shaft a has lateral openings e provided internally at their lower edges with inverted hoods spaced apart or with upwardly inclined baffle-plates f, and a flat or conical cover g extending considerably beyond the shaft ; in its cylindrical form, the top and cover may be adjustable in diameter. Inverted U shaped slits are preferably made in the shaft, and the tongues so formed are bent inwards to form the openings e and baffles f. The cylindrical shaft may be made from a bent metal sheet, the ends of which overlap and are bolted together, one end having single boltholes, and the other having rows of bolt-holes j, so that the diameter of the shaft may be varied. The cover may be made in overlapping halves having a similar arrangement of bolt-holes so that it may be varied in size.
