Description

L-. N.- DUNMORE. 1) SMOKE STACK PROV FLU No. 572,415. Patented Dec. 1, 1896.
"I TERS CO PHUTQ-UTHO WASHINGTON D D UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEYVIS N. DUNMORE, OF DOUGLASS, KANSAS.
FLUE AND SMOKE-STACK PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,415, dated December 1, 1896.
Application filed January 20, 1896. Serial No. 576,234- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS N. DUNMORE, of Douglass, Butler county, Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flue and Smoke-Stack Protectors, of which the following is a clear and exact description.
The object of this combination as an invention is to protect the draft of stovepipes, chimneys, and smoke-stacks, and can be used as a ventilator.
My invention relates to flue and smokestack protectors; and it consists of a pipe adapted and adjusted to the top of a flue and provided with two perforated and one solid conic shaped caps and draft openings between said caps, in combination with a drum adjusted over and around the upper part of caps C C between the opening in the pipe A and the solid cap D help the draft by dividing the column of hot air and smoke and turning part of it out toward the drum B before it reaches the solid cap D.
B is the drum adjusted over and around the upper portion of the pipe A and caps O O and D, and is made larger at the bottom than at the top to allow the downward currents of air to pass out freely together with the smoke escaping from the pipe A. The smoke in coming from the pipe A passes out of the top of the drum B unless driven downward by the wind. In adverse winds the drum B being open at the top and bottom allows the smoke to pass out interchangeably without being collected or hindered, thus making a perfect draft in any condition of the atmosphere.
The combination as an invention is to be made of steel, sheet-iron, or other suitable material and can be made in round or square form, as best suited to maker in fitting them to pipes or flues.
I am aware that prior to my invention caps, solid and perforated, have been used in other mechanical inventions. Therefore I do not claim this combination, broadly; but
Vhat I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a section of stovepipe, smoke-stack or flue a drum B provided with two or more conic-shaped caps O and D, all perforated but the top one and all fastened to inside of drum B so they will be directly over and allow the drum B to come down below the opening ein pipe or smoke-stack, the drum B being made larger at the bottom as shown substantially as and for the purpose described.
