The object of this invention is to provide a device that will cut up the diverse currents of air and prevent the wind from blowing down the smoke-passage, and also increase and quicken the draft of chimneys and smokestacks.

To the upper part of the body A are rig-- idly secured a number of tubular segmental parts, B, arranged vertically around the exterior circumferentialsurface. The segments B will usually be four in number, and be disposed at regular intervals, as shown. A greater or less number may be used, in accordance with the diameter of the smokepassage and the results attained. These segments are cut away at both ends on an oblique angle, the lower ends being cut away in a downward direction and the opposite ends upward, leaving the same projecting some distance above the edge of the body A.

The frustum-ring I) is mounted upon and rigidly secured to the highest points of the tubular segments 13 by means of the brackets b. This arrangementprovides the triangular openings (Z, inclosed by the upper beveled edges of the segments B and the lower edge of the ring D. The openings (1 are in the same plane with the oval openings co, so that a current of air entering the last-named openings strikes the rounded surfaces of the segments B, naturally passing upward and outward through the angular openings and the space between the upper series of wings and the ring D, being of course also aided by the air-currents entering lower down. The whole is topped by the disk-cap D, rigidly mounted on the upper ends of the brackets 19, leaving quite an open space between said cap and the frustum-ring D. The diameter of the cap D is less than that of the circle described by the series of wings C.
By this form of construction and arrangement of the several parts a chimney top or cap is provided that will have the effect of cutting up and dividing diverse currents of air, and not only thereby preventing the wind from passing down the s1noke-passage,but also will have the effect of increasing a sluggish draft and cure smoky chimneys.
Having thus described my invention,what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A chimney-top consisting of the body A, the tubular segments B, rigidly secured to the exterior surface of said body and having both ends cut away, as described, the series of wings 0, having beveled edges and rigidly secured to said segments, andso disposed as to cover the hollows between the same, the frustum-ring D, the brackets 12, and the disk-cap I), all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
