Stop motions, shuttle; brake mechanism -In fastreed looms, when the shuttle enters the box correctly, the swell mechanism 23, 24, Fig. 1, causes a lever 26 to be rocked and to act on a bowl 11 on a spring-controlled pawl 9 pivoted at 8 on the arm 6 of a two-armed lever 6, 29, suspended by means of an arm 14 and a spring 15. At the beat-up, the pawl is thus rocked away from the tooth 4 on a disk 3 on the crank shaft 1. If, however, the shuttle is not correctly boxed, the pawl engages the tooth and the lever 6, 29 is rocked. The rounded forward end of the arm 6 acts on a lever 18 connected to the loom stopping- mechanism, while a brake shoe 31 adjustably connected to the arm 29 is moved into contact with the fly-wheel 2, so that the loom is stopped without stressing the lay. In a modification, the pawl 9, Fig. 2, is connected by a two part connecting-rod 37, 36 to an arm 33 on a shaft provided with a . spring-controlled toothed disk 34, the pawl 9 being thus normally withdrawn from the toothed disk 3. If, however, the shuttle is incorrectly boxed, at the beat-up of the lay, an arm 43 engages and rocks the toothed disk, the two-part rod 37, 36 then turning the pawl 9 towards the disk 3. A spring 41, which connects the parts 37, 36, holds the pawl resiliently in contact with the disk. The pawl may be mounted upon a rectilinearlymovable part.
