Loom shuttle boxes; pickers; checking shuttles and pickers; stopmotions; shuttles, changing bobbins in, automatically.-The shuttle box is constructed and the picker and swell arranged so that the shuttle may be driven by either an underpick or an overpick motion. The picker 8 has an extension a passing through a slot in the back 1 of the shuttle box, and provided with a sleeve 5 which slides on a guide-rod 4. The usual guide-groove in the bottom of the box may be dispensed with, and the bottom of the picker made without any projection. The extension a has a slot 6 with which the picking-stick of an underpick motion may engage, or to which the picking-strap of an overpick motion may be attached. The swell or lever 3 is pivoted at 9 at the front of the shuttle box, and is pressed inwards by a spring 7 acting with most strength, when pressed by the picker 8, when the shuttle is in the box. The outward motion of the swell 3 is limited by an adjustable lever 2, and, when pressed outward by the shuttle, it moves a cranked lever 20, 16, Fig. 3. A stud 18 on the arm 16 raises a cranked lever 15, 17, so that the arm 17 does not strike a tongue 14 except when the shuttle fails to enter the box. When the tongue 14 is struck, it is carried forward and strikes a projecting part of the knocking-off lever, thus stopping the loom. This construction is specially adapted for automatic bobbin-changing looms, as the shuttle is firmly secured in its proper position in the shuttle box, and the bobbinchanging mechanism may be applied to both overpick and underpick looms.
