Abstract

11,764. Myers, C. H. May 20. Carburetting.-In a carburettor for internalcombustion engines, wherein air is passed over saturated absorbent material, the carburettor has a lower compartment 17<1>, and a staggered series of superposed compartments 17 with sloping sides, each compartment containing absorbent material 18, with the threads arranged vertically, and longitudinal plates 25, which are formed with holes 26 and are preferably corrugated. Liquid is admitted at a cock 21 and flows through the compartments in succession, excess passing out at a cock 27. Air is admitted through an adjustable opening 5 and follows a tortuous course over the material 18 in the successive compartments 17<1>, 17, and the mixture passes to an outlet 11, valve 12, and pipe 16, where it is mixed with more air admitted through adjustable ports 37, 39 and fixed ports 33. The final mixture passes through a pipe 35 to the engine. If back - pressure occurs it is relieved automatically by means of a spring- pressed disk 45 and openings 43 communicating with the atmosphere.
