Abstract

7957. Beesley, F. April 4. Breech actions, drop-down barrel.-Relates to over-and-under drop-down guns of the kind in which a complete circular knuckle joint is used as a connexion between the action-body and the fore-part, and consists (1) in shaping the knuckle as a rule joint; (2) in making the knuckle completely bridge the gap between the side cheeks of the action-body; (3) in forming the fore-part as a cradle for the lower barrel; and (4) in means for locking and cocking the gun. The action-body A, Fig. 10, has each side recessed at A<1> to receive the cheeks C<6>, Fig. 5, of the fore-part C, and is bored longitudinally on each side at A<2>, A<3> to receive, respectively, the cocking-rods F and the legs D<1>, Fig. 9, of the locking-bolt D. The barrels are provided with a hook to engage the recess C<1>, Fig. 5, and with a projection to which the strap of the fore-part is connected by a pin. The fore-part is formed as a cradle to receive the lower barrel, and the cheeks C‹ are slotted to receive the ejector-mechanism. Each cheek has two cams C<5>, C<7> to act, respectively, on the rod F and locking-bolt D. The cams C' are stepped at C<3> to engage the legs D<1> of the locking-bolt. In the modification, Fig. 11, each rod F is actuated, during the breaking-down of the gun, by means of a pivoted lever H<1>, H<2> engaging a recess F<2> in the rod.
