Field carriages.-Relates to carriages with divided trails, the members of which are spread apart in the firing position, but are brought together for limbering-up. According to the invention, the effective length of the trail is reduced when the members are swung together, by a combined longitudinal and pivoting movement. In the form shown in Fig. 1, each trail member 6, 7 has a pin 27 which, in the firing position, shown in full lines, engages in a longitudinal groove 28 in the end of the rigid part 23 of the trail, and each member is locked by a cut-away bolt 35. When the bolt is rotated to the release position, the trail member is swung around the pin 27 until a rib 29 is alined with the groove 28. The trail member is then slid forwards until the rib 29 has passed through the groove; a further swinging movement is then possible about a second pin 26 which has passed into the groove, and the rear ends of the trail members are thus brought together. An undercut groove 32 in each trail member passes over a lug 33 on the axle so that the trail members are coupled directly to the axle. The successive positions, of the right-hand trail member 7 are shown at I, II, III, and IV. Alternative means for obtaining the combined forward and pivoting movements of the trail members are described in which a short link is introduced between each trail member and the connecting- piece 22. One such modification is shown in Fig. 8. The short link 34 is pivoted at 46 to the trail member 6 and at 47 to the connecting-piece 22. In the firing position I a locking-pin 48 passes through the three members 34, 6, 22. When the pins 48 on each side are removed, the trail members can be brought together by moving them through position II to position III, each trail member being then coupled to the axle by a pin 49.
