Abstract
131,104. Vickers, Ltd., and North, T. K. June 14, 1918. Machine guns. - Relates to barreldetaching means of the kind in which, after displacing a locking-piece, the muzzle of the gun is moved upward to convey to the barrel an angular movement to disengage a transverse tooth on its breech end from a. recess in the body of the weapon. According to the invention, the breech end of the barrel is recessed to provide a transverse tooth of wedge shape. Fig. 2 shows the position in which the locking-pin C has been rotated to free the barrel 13. The pin has a cut-away portion c<3> which frees the rear end of the barrel and a recess c<x> which permits the gas cylinder D<1> to be moved rearwards to free the gas ring D. The barrel has a recess b and a wedge-shaped tooth b<1> which interlock with the fixed body A, the rotation of the pin C into engagement with a groove b<3> in the barrel serving to lock the barrel to the fixed body and the gas cylinder to the gas ring. In the position shown in Fig. 2, the locking-bolt obstructs slightly the rear end of the gas cylinder so as to prevent the operation of the gun when the barrel is unlocked.
