Ordnance breech mechanism.-Relates to the class of wedge breech mechanism operated by a lever which is pivoted to the gun, and which has a roller on one arm engaging a cam-groove in the block. According to the invention, the roller E, on the arm C<1> of the operating-lever C C<1>, does not fit the part b<1> of the cam-groove b<1>, b<2> when, as shown in Fig. 3, the breech is closed, a recess b<4> being provided in the groove, so that the shock of discharge, tending to open the breech, is not transmitted to the roller E, but is taken up by surfaces b<3>, c<4> on the block and lever respectively. The invention may be applied to breech mechanism in which the roller is replaced by a pin or heart - shaped body. Specification 5328/05 is referred to.
